Retired Accessories List
The 2008 Retired Accessories has finally been posted, and there are some very sad surprises on it for me.
The top 10 things I will miss:
1. Mulberry Paper
2. Metallic Pencils
3. Pure Colour Pencils
4. Stipple Brushes
5. Handheld Rectangle Punch…(I just got it!)
6. Almost Amethyst Designer Series Paper
7. Bali Breeze Designer Series Paper
8. Ginger Blossom Designer Series Paper
9. Three for You Punch
10. On Board Accents
I’ve just played around with a NEW stamping technique found online called “Black Magic”. Here’s the first card ever attempted with it…

This card uses White Craft Ink (heat set after stamping on Black), Pure Colour Pencils- outline in one shade, and fill in with a lighter one, white gel pen to outline.
If you love this look, you need the Pure Colour Pencils. If you live in Canada and need a demonstrator to order them from, I’m your girl ![]()
Have a wonderful day. The next post will have the entire retired accessories listing.

New Scallop Border Punch
Isn’t this exciting? I’ve been practicing and playing and getting better each time I try it. Samples made with it will follow soon!
Enjoy!

Card Kit Preview
Wow! This is a terribly bright card kit, but I’m excited to try it out. I’ll post some pics in the next few days of cards made with it. For now, in addition to ribbon, brads, and buttons, here is a quick layout of all the papers and self-adhesive die-cuts (aka cardstock weight stickers) that come in the kit. BTW, the 8.5×11 cardstock is textured ![]()
TTYL!

2008 Fall/Winter Hostess Sneak Peek
I love getting new stamps in the mail. This year I was able to get a bunch of stamps for free while redeeming Sale-a-Bration rewards. I’m especially excited, because ALL the new stamp sets are Die Cut- that means you just punch them out, put your sticker on the wood block, line up the image, and start stamping. No more trimming required!
This set is called Happiness Always. It’s a level 3, I believe, 2-step stamping, double mounted stamp set. While I’m not a fan of double mounting, I am a fan of this set. It’s just gorgeous. I think the whole set is going to be very versatile. There’s a terrific leaf stamp in there that can be really nice for fall. I’m looking forward to using it
I happened to have a couple of lonely pieces of Cool Caribbean cardstock left so used them up with this and another card. It’s a 4×4 square card, and also uses Cameo Coral, Tempting Turquoise, Summer Sun, and Basic Black cardstock. This tech was modified from a favorite of mine, Chalkboard.
Stamp the images in white craft ink, and heat set. Colour over the craft ink with Watercolour Crayons, and use a damp paintbrush to blend the colours. The white craft ink will blend a bit as well, so the effect is more a painted look rather than coloured.
I used my distressing tool on the yellow layer to add a bit of texture.
Hope you love it ![]()

Technique Tuesday: Making your Hardware Pretty, Part 2
Well, it’s not Tuesday, but we got back from our doomed vacation early due to a number of uncontrollable factors.
Have you got your hardware out? If you don’t own any, check out the special put out by Stampin’ Up! while supplies last…and if you need a demo in Canada, I’m your girl
They are retiring the current supply of Hodgepodge Hardware, so if you enjoy the current selection, now is the time to place your order.
This post will have 2 more techniques to make your hardware pretty. I’m sure I’ve only touched the tip of the iceburg with these ideas- feel free to experiment a litle and let me know what you’ve discovered. I’d love to post it here, giving a link to your tutorial and examples.
Start by picking up your bottle of Crystal Effects. This lovely medium is like a thick glue that comes out milky but dries clear, and popped up. It gives dimension to just about everything you can imagine. It does take a while to dry though, so resist the urge to touch your artwork to see if it’s dry- I’ve left fingerprints on more than one masterpiece.
I had an almost-empty bottle of Ruby Red Classic Ink refill. What to do? Hmmm….what if I pour some crystal effects in it, and add a little Dazzling Diamonds Glitter…shake it well, and squeeze it out onto my hardware…
The resulting look is simply stunning. It changed the look of my pewter hardware into an almost deep red acrylic look:
Now, a few things to know about doing this technique:
-Make sure you work on a non-stick surface, such as parchment or wax paper. In spite of the thickness of CE, it will ooze before it dries so you need to know you can remove it once it’s dry
-Keep moving around your hardware to keep it from sticking using a toothpick or other small tipped surface
-As the CE oozes you may end up with puddles or thicker sections when it has dried- use your toothpick to spread it out as thinly as possible once you’ve applied it
-Put the lid on between “squeezings” and shake the bottle well, to ensure your glitter is evenly distributed across your hardware.
Some other uses for this particular medium coming up in future posts. Check back often, or subscribe to my RSS feed so you don’t miss it
Another way to make your hardware pretty also involves CE. Make this the last step you do when you’re creating something, as it will need time to dry. I’m using a brad, but you can use any other type of hardware you want.
Start by making your card…punch a hole where you want the blinged brad to be, and insert your brad. Next, gently squeeze your bottle of CE and put a very small amount of CE onto your brad, covering the surface entirely, but not going off the edges. Work slowly and carefully- you can always add more, but it’s a lot more difficult to take some off. Next, sprinkle glitter generously over your project area, making sure you have completely covered your brad. Gently tilt your project over scrap paper to remove extra glitter, and do it over again. When you’re certain you’ve got your brad covered, leave it flat somewhere to dry.
I used the Chunky Essentials red glitter for this project. I love how it turned out:
Have a wonderful week!
Stacy
