Last night I held my first Stamp-a-Stack of the season. We had a pretty good time. My guests were most WOWED by my pillow card. I got the technique from Natasha of Palmtrees and Pogosticks. It involves “gift wrapping” a window sheet around cardstock so you don’t see where the adhesive is stuck. In real life this card looks so cool- I hope you can tell from the scan.
We also used the Simply Scrappin’ Kit Just Delightful along with it’s coordinating stamp set, Delight in life, the Very Punny set, created a birthday card using Happy Harmony, and the Big Blossom, So Very, and Cheesecloth background set created an “anything” card (the greeting simply says “happy”).
It was tough getting a picture of them hard at work, but I finally caught one. Enjoy!

Big Blossom

Posted in Card Samples at 11:08 pm by stamperstacy

I spent some time using my big blossom yesterday. At first this flower didn’t work for me, but I created several last night that I really like. I used Elegant Eggplant and Old Olive inks, along with Whisper White and Old Olive cardstocks. There are more SAB sets on my typepad blog.

Roses in Winter is one of my favorite sets, well-suited to just about any project. Here I’ve got my stationary portfolio. On one side is a set of writing paper, stamped with the same set, and on the other a set of coordinated envelopes.

Creating Multiple Cards

Posted in Card Samples at 6:11 am by stamperstacy

best-fishes-outcome.jpgbest-fishes-multiple-tutorial.jpg
So often it happens…you need a card for a special occasion and there isn’t one that’s right in your box. So you either scramble like crazy to make a second-rate one or you buy one. That’s not right! Especially when you consider how much you’ve probably spent on stamps and related supplies…
The best thing to do about this situation so that you can prevent it from happening again is to sit down with a colour scheme, stamp set, and accessories in hand. Limit yourself to 1 stamp set and/or image from the set, one way of colouring, one use of accessories. Do this when you have a couple of hours to play. Gather everything together that you will need, use everything, then put it all away.
For eg. I wanted to use this Very Punny SAB set. I decided on the Best Fishes. First, I stamped the image with Basic Black Classic Ink. Then, I used my blender pen and pastels to colour in the images. I had already decided that my card base would be white, and that I wanted to use some Designer Series Paper (Loves Me) on each card. The first card took the most time since I had to figure out how big the piece of DSP would be, how much of a mat I would use around my image, and what accents I wanted. But once I figured that out, I was able to complete one thing at a time and end up with 9 cards in the same space of time it used to take me to complete 1. In other words: Assembly Line. This saves more time then you would believe!

Thank You Card for Shelli

Posted in Card Samples at 3:01 am by stamperstacy

Polka Dots and Paisley
Over Christmas Shelli, CEO of SU, had a gift sent out to all demonstrators, including newbies, and even now STILL included in the starter kits (You must have the paperwork filled out and in their office by the end of Feb to get this free additional set). There was a thread circulating around Splitcoast Stampers about sending a thank-you card, and I decided I would be sending one too. I’m sure Shelli could have stamped something better-she’s the stamping queen of all time- but I know receiving homemade cards in the mail are some of the most special moments in my life. It gives you a thrill to know someone thought of you enough to make something from scratch, then found an envelope, postage stamp, your address, and then actually got it into a mailbox.

Delight in Life- extra tutorial

Posted in Card Samples, Technique Tuesday at 11:01 pm by stamperstacy

Delight in Life SAB set
This is probably my most favorite card ever. I’m so thrilled with it! This is the one I’ve designed that we’re doing at our Millet training this coming weekend.
First, stamp Delight in Life in Cranberry Crisp Classic Ink onto Confetti White cardstock in the upper right corner. Next, adhere a (1″ wide by 4.25 inches long) strip of Designer Series Paper (I used the Loves Me paper featured in our current Winter Mini catalogue) along the left hand side of the card. Using Cranberry Crisp Classic Ink, stamp the large flower image randomly across the card. Stamp one more onto a scrap piece of Confetti White cardstock, cut out, and set aside. Next, using Pretty in Pink Classic Ink, stamp the 2nd flower part, the “fill-in” feature, into the Cranberry Flowers and also randomly across the card. Use the smaller flower, inked with Pretty in Pink, to finish off the Cranberry Flowers (It’s the 3rd flower part- 3-step stamping). Apply the Pretty in Pink Classic Ink directly to the cardstock, which is known as the Direct to Paper technique. Now you take the Cranberry Flower you cut out, and fold in the petals to add dimension. Punch a hole in the lower left-hand side of the card, and then into the center of the Cranberry Flower, and attach it to the card with a silver brad. Finish off the card by adding a 15″ strip of light pink grosgrain ribbon, tied in a knot ( I don’t do bows!) with a 3″ piece of light pink gingham ribbon tied in a knot around the middle of the first ribbon’s knot. Trim the edges, step back, and admire :) Now think of someone very special to send this card to.
The Stamp set is called Delight in Life, and is strictly available as a free stamp set with a $75 purchase until the end of February of this year. Click here for more details!

Technique Tuesday: Faux Stitching, Faux-Faux Stitching, and More!

Posted in Technique Tuesday at 3:39 pm by stamperstacy

faux-and-faux-faux-stitching.jpgAgreeably, it’s a strange title. But this card example uses several techniques. The first is Faux Stitching. Create a line of perforations, then join them with a gel pen. This gives the appearance of having been stitched. (in this case, it’s perfectly me, as I don’t think I could have stitched a straight line if my life depended on it!) To do this most easily, use the Crafters Tool Kit from Stampin’ Up! It contains a paper piercing tool, along with the mats needed to do this so you don’t ruin your table, and a handy little template with holes all over the place in perfectly straight lines (I didn’t use it tonight).
The second technique on this card is my made up one called Faux-Faux Stitching. The tag was stamped with Versamark, then the white gel pen followed along the lines, creating another stitching effect. I also used this along the bottom and in the middle of the stamped flowers, using a Stampin’ Write Marker’s fine tip. Argueably, you could also call this doodling! (Let’s take a vote…make your opinion known…comment here!) The third technique I used is called Masking. After stamping the tag with versamark, I was too lazy to clean the stamp, so masked off most of the stamp with post it notes, then used the marker to colour in the words.
To create this card I used: Morning Marigold, Whisper White, and Real Red Cardstock, Real Red Classic Ink Pad and Marker, Versamark Pad, White Uniball Gell Pen, Copper Cord, 1/16 punch, Tag Punch, scissors, “Tags so Much” (Hostess Stamp Set) and Love Without End stamp set. I hope you enjoyed this!
